Grocery Retailers Taking a Bite out of 'Food Holidays' like 'National Cookie Day'

Food Holidays Like National Cookie Day Add Up to Some Serious Dough

Did you know December 4th is "National Cookie Day" here in the USA? While we sometimes joke about these made-up marketing holidays, some like this one, are no joking matter. National Cookie Day is one of the food holidays that equates to some serious dough for retailers like Whole Foods Market.

Whole Foods promotes holidays like National Coffee Day and National Cookie Day, using them as an opportunity to promote and sale a lot more of their products. This year Whole Foods is giving its shoppers a sweet deal -- 50% off all cookies in their cookie bar from 1-4 December.

Made up holiday or not, lots of these food holidays get a lot of buzz online with social media like Facebook and Instagram. Savvy retailers are tapping into the buzz, creating some real, compelling offers in stores and entertaining content online.

Have a look at some photos we took this week at one of Whole Foods' stores in Maryland.
